How to catch Crappie in Summer. Using minnows in the hot part of the year or summer, is key to catching loads of Crappie. Slip Corks or vertical presentation works best. Summer is not the time you use jigs or the jig and bobber set up, fish are deep looking for consistent water temps and good dissolved oxygen content. Jigs will work on shallow fish as well as sunrise and sunset. Live minnows for Crappie are best during the day.
