beginner fly fishing guide
When bass fly fishing cast your flies into the riffles and let them drift into the pools. Once it reaches the back half, start stripping aggressively towards you. These bass will chase the flies and strike! You may also feel a strike as soon as the fly enters the pool. It’s not uncommon for the fish to hit the fly as soon as it falls out of the riffles. Feeding bass also like the commotion of a nice fly that cause a bubble trail hitting the water and will smack the fly with conviction. They position themselves into ambush points to feed, so learn good cast to target the feeding points.
Crayfish patterns, Deceivers, Clouser Minnows and Wooly Buggers are going to be your best bet. Also, small poppers in the morning or evening will catch fish.
I like hiking into the area I fish although I do have a kayak, sometimes during low flows I drag the kayak more than I paddle. When wading its important to not disturb the water you are going to fish by mudding it up or rushing yourself. A wooden wading staff serves to purposes checking and defending against snakes and maintaining balance and moving slowly. A staff allows you to check water depth.
